KRUGER CENTENARY.
GREAT BOER PATRIOT. CAPETOWN, October 12. It is estimated that from 15,000 to '.0,000 people were present at the unveilng of the Kruger statue at Pretoria on Saturday on the occasion of the cenenary of the Boer leader's birth. The :eremony was performed by the Prime Minister (General Hertzog). In his speech, General Hertzog said hat Kruger had ceased to 'be merely a Fransvaal hero. He was now a South African heroGeneral said that Kruger was ;he personification of everything noble md. heroic in his aspirations. Another speaker said that South Africa had no consciousness of national nferiority owing to the fact that their "orefathers had counted no sacrifice too for their rights or self-respect, and iad never known when they were beaten. Senator Wolmarans,,,the only survivng member of the Executive Council of :he Kruger regime, also spoke. His Excellency the Governor-General, :he Earl, of Athlone. placed a wreath on the statue on behalf of King George.— (Reuter.)
