THE NIGRO BANKRUPTCY. , WIFE DID NOT BANK MONET. | KEPT IT IX THE HOUSE. ] A further meeting in the bankrupt estate of Gennaro Nigro, farmer, of Auckland, was held this morning, when financial matters were dealt with at length. Mr. Leary, solicitor for Nigro, < stated that a complete statement would be obtained, from the bank, and the Official Assignee said he would have no hesitation in asking for it. ' Lillian Rose Nigro, wife of bankrupt, •' was examined by the Official Assignee ' (Mr. W. S. Fisher). She stated that i she married Nigro nine years ago. At ! about that time she received £1000 from ' her father, in various sums, ranging from ' £100 to £.300, given her at interval's over ' a period of eight months. The whole of ' the money was given her in cash. She could not recall the identity of her father's solicitor. Her father died shortly after the marriage, but she received very ' little under the will. Of the £1000 she : used £.300 to buy furniture on cash pay- ; ments. She lent her husband £500, about two and a half years ago. Prior to that : she had the money out at interest for three years. ' i Mrs. Nigro said her late father had a < rooted objection to banks, and he had • instructed her not to deal with banks. 1 Consequently she had followed the practice of keeping the money by her. None of her dealings with the £1000 could be , traced through a bank. , Mr. Fisher: What about the other , £250?— That? Oh, you know how money , goes, Mr. Fisher: (Laughter, i ; It went in household expenses? —I still , have some. , Mr. Leary explained that Mrs. Nigro . had about £100. \ To Mr. Mackersey (of Te Kuiti) : Nigro had not given her any money. Three , years ago she bought the racehorse t Dorinda. It was in training for 15 ] months. "I've got as much out of the horse as I put in—it won a little over , £300," she said. The last time the horse , ran it was placed, at the last Matamata , meeting. Mrs. Nigro said she always kept her money in a safe at home. At times she < had kept several hundred pounds in the ( house. The racehorse had been pur- ( chased with money she had held prior to , marriage. J Mr. Neuinegen. solicitor, who had acted , for Nigro prior to the bankruptcy, was j examined concerning accounts. Mr. Mackersey observed that more 1 complete statements would have to be j obtained, Mr. Fisher concurring in this. > The meeting then adjourned. J
