MT. EDEN. The Mount Eden Borough Council met last evening. : — The Mayor (Mr. E. H Potter), and Messrs. \V. Woolley, J. smith U. Kraser, \V. <J. Lange, F. Morris, G L Taylor, K. McK. Morison, S. Newcomb. J. i. linoton uud A. M. Bryden. The engineer reported that work under the various sewerage contracts was making rapid and satisfactory progress. Surveys and preparation of plans were in progress for suwerage of the block between Dominion itoad. Wynyard Road, View Road, Edenvale unci Hlitnvood Road. It was proposed to inviie tenders for the work at an early date. A scheme had been prepared for the construction of a road in extension of Clive Koad. An emphatic protest against the condition of the tramway tracks in the Mount Eden district was voiced by Mr. Fraser, who made special reference to the track in front of the Mount Eden Bowling Club's grounds. It was decided that the matter be referred to the tramway company. The building permits for the month of September totalled o(i, the total value being fIS.OTO. Twenty-cmc of the permits were in reference to alterations or additions. A list of 23 properties whose owners had failed to provide connection with sewers, was referred to the Works Committee. The foreman of the Works Committee reported that a start had been made in the work of preparation in the children's play<TOund at Potter's Park. . On the recommendation of the Parks Committee the council decided to contribute the sum of £100 toward? the cost of forming the proposed tennis courts on Young's Estate. It was also decided to pay the difference in cost between the use of wood or poilite for • the tennis pavilion. The .Municipal Association advised that the next conference will be held on February 4 at Dunedin. It was decided that delegates be appointed. In reply to a letter from the council offering to undertake fire protection in Mount Roskill West for the sum of £75, the Mount Koskill Koad Board advised that it was willing to pay £00 per annum for the service. The council decided that the board be informed that the service cannot be undertaken for less thnn £7o per annum. A tender of £3140 for sewerage -work in Prospect Terrace and Valley Road was accepted. The engineer's estimate was £4560.

Sppight. ami T. B. Gilbert. Domain Boards. —The Minister of Lands (the Hon. W. Nosworthy) has informed the council that the financial year of domain boarrlß shall terminate on .March 31 in lieu of Drrember 81. The financial year ending on March 31, 1926, will cover the period from January 1, 1925, to that date. Koad Works.—lt was decided to form Mount Smart Koad after completion of Church Street. The width of the ■ footpaths to be left with the Streets Committee with power to act. The question of the levels of Cameron Street is to be left with the foreman of works to confer with the engineer of the One Tree Hill Boad Board. Finance. —The general account is in debit £5329.' Accounts amounting to £3215 9/11 were passed for payment. Claim for Compensation.—The owners of a propery in Queen Street have notified the council of their intention to take legal proceeding to recover £200 compensation for alleged damage to -their- property through the raising. of the road ia the vicinity. < • ''■? . Accident Insurance. —The Government Insurance Department has informed - the council that in accordance with, the .proposal submitted, the policy ; ; for council employees has been endorsed, excluding liability in respect of accidents to workers In the service of any contractor or subcontractor of the council. Under the Act the council is' liable to pay the compensation due to such -employees if the constructor la unable to pay the compensation or has neglected to arrange the necessary insurance to cover his workmen engaged on the contract. —Keferred to the Legal and Finance Committee to report. Building Permits.—The town ,clerk reported that fifteen permits had been Issued for new buildings during the last fortnight, of the total value of £11,955. The Next Move.—The One Tree Hill ■Road Board has -suggested that the council should take the necessary steps, nuder the provisions of the Municipal Corporations Act, to secure the inclusion of apportion of One Tree Hill district in the Birough of Onehunga. The cost to be niotually arranged. l Jt was decided to ask Dr. T. J. Hughes, Medical Officer of Health, to confer with the council regarding the drainage of this area. .'Conference. —The chairman of the Auckland Harbour Board (Mr. H. 8... Mackenzie) and Mr. J. H. Lowe, District Railway Engineer, will attend a conference with the council to consider the question ,of improvements to the surroundings of the Onehunga wharf. The conference will be held a fortnight hence.
NEW LYNN,
A meeting of the New Lynn Town Board *va's held last evening. There were present: Messrs. C. V. Gardner (in-the chair), «H. S. VVilding, S. Stacey, A." F. Boberts, Theo. Brown, and I. Hughes. Resignation.—Mr. J. H. Lawn, .road fore-, man, tendered his resignation, which was accepted. Picnic—Tie New Lynn Community Gnild wrote asking for permission to hold a procession in the district on Labour Day in connection nita a picnic for the children.— Granted. * Totara Avenue.—A letter was received, from Mr. A. W. 'Grade and others re tue condition of the footpath and water channel in front of their business premises. Some months ago they had contributed towards the cost of such work as.tarring and sandinjj, and the board was now asked to renew the footpath surface and deal with the water table. It was agreed to carry out work as soon as possible. Cyclists on Footpaths.—3ir. J. A. Fielding drew the board's attention to the necessity of making an example of some riders of cycles that are now usitig tie footpaths in the district. It was stated that sis had been counted on the footpath at one time in a certain locality. The writer svsls positive that had any young children "left their premises an accident would have occurrea. It was decided to communicate with the police and ask for prosecutions.. Electric Light.—A letter from the Auckland Power Board intimated that in tnemeantime intending consumers should appiy direct to them for power in order that they might advise them as to the actual area which was at present being; reticulated ana the area* beyond. The Waitemata Power 'Hoard had now undertaken to purchase the reticulation "from the Auckland Board, and the only question to be decided was the date of transfer.' Under £he circumstances it would be useless, therefore, to receive "a large number of applications that wo.uld have to be dealt with by the Waitemata Board. A communication from the Waitemata Board asked permission to erect poles in the district. Permission was granted subject to terms of supply being satisfactorily arranged. A Claim.—The solicitors of Mr. Henry treen submitted a claim of fIOO for obstruction, the obstruction being a culvert in Gardner Street, which, it was alleged, owing to its incapacity to fullr carry the storm water, had caused damage to the property to the extent of the above amount. Lnless the amount was paid within one month proceedings would be taken to recover the damage.—The 'board decided to Place the matter in the hands of its j sobcitors. i
Buildings.—Mr. W. Thomas reported that Permits had been issued for four new dwellings, and that ten were in coarse or erection.
