AUCKLAND GRAMMAR SCHOOL.

Mies Eleie Millicent Johnson, M.A., now principal "'[ of Southland Girls' Grammar School, InvercAfgill, was appointed to the position of lady principal of Auckland Girls' Grammar School at a meeting of the board yesterday. There was a considerable number of applicants. Miss Jonh&ton will assume her new duties on January 31, when Mias Picken retiree.

In 1910 end 1911, Mis* Johnson was a form mistress- at Auckland Grammar School. She wee engaged in relieving work at Wellington Girls' College in 1908, and at Chilton House School, Wellington, 1909. From 1912 to 1914 she was a form mistress at Wellington Girls' College, and for the ensuing five years Was language mistress at Durban Girls' High School, South Africa. In 1920 «he was English mistress at Redditeh Secondary School, Worcestershire, and in 1921, on returning to New Zealand, English mistress and head of language department at Wellington Girls* College. During tie two following years Miss Johnston was eenior mistress and head of language department at Christchurch Technical College. Since February, 1924, she has been lady principal at Southland Girls' College. A Master of Arts of the University of New Zealand, having passed the examination in 1909 with honours in English and French, Miss Johnson waa formerly senior scholar, French, and junior scholar of the New Zealand University, first in English* in 1904, and first in mathematics in 1905. She was a Queen's scholar, and was offered the Jacob Joseph scholarship for research at Victoria University College, Wellington, in 1910. She holds tie teacher's certificate of the University of Cambridge, 1919, first-class, with distinction, and the teacher's certificate of the Education Department of Natal, 1915. Miss Johnsontook a post graudate course at the University of London for part of 1919, which was supplemented by a vacation course at Oxford.
