MINE MANAGERS' REPORTS. ! Moanataiari. — The manager reports that the Cambria section, east crosscut, was advanced sft, total 223 ft. The country Is still of a good description, and water is coming from the face. The west crosscut was advanced. "ft. total lfUft. The good country which, is showing on the roof of the drive Is dipping very flut, and Is not yet at the floor of the drive. The drive on the Caledonia reef was advanced 12ft, total 90ft. The country is still of a nice mild nature. The leader Is opened out to about '2ft wide on hard quartz, and is running along with the main reef. It shows a little iron pyrites, but not much antimeny. Tiki Talisman.—Steady development work is being done on the Tiki Talisman claim at Matawal, Coromandel. Several reels have been located, and to-day the manager telegraphed : "Have secured another reef in the Winnipeg Claim. 12 inches wide, and showing gold freely. Kuranui.—The manager reports that during the past Week a leading Btope hag been taken along the drive on the northeast trend of the veef, between the two rises, a distance of 40ft, • preparatory to timbering the tunnel, and making ready to commence stoping operations. When breaking down the reef the quartz showed gold the whole distance, five pounds of picked stone being obtained, amongst Which are some nrst-elase specimens, the general dirt being good payable ore. New Waiotnhi. —The mine manager reports that the intermediate drive on the reef has been extended sft for tho week, leaving another sft to reach the estimated point of its junction with the reef followed in the drive below. For three or four feet the reef was pinched but Is making again, and a few piecee of picked stone have been selected from the quartz taken down. The crosscut for the WalotahiCnmbria reef has been extended 7ft fur the week, leaving 3Sft to reach the estimated course of the reef. Tho face is still In what appears to be true footwall country, and which is being followed with the view of picking up the displaced portion, of the Waiotahi-Cambria reef. Rising Sun. —The mine manager report!?: No. 1 5.8., No. 3 reef: At this point the lode has become much harder to break, and in some places smaller. This may ehanpo nt any time, as we have had many such changes while working this block. The average width of lode operated on was 24 inches, jvorth £ 4 per ton. No. 2 5.8., No. 3 reef, leading stope: This work is proceeding satisfactorily, the average width of lode exposed is 18 Inches, worth £3 It"/ per ton. No. 1 5.8., No. 1 reef: At this point good ore still continues to come to hand ; average width of lode is "*l Inches, worth £6 per ton. No. 2 5.8., No. 1 reef: At this point a leading etope is being taken off over the Intermediate level. Average width of lode 12 inches, worth £5 3/2 per ton. No. 4 8.N., No. 1 reef: Filling and timbering being carried on in this block to have it ready when power is available for machines. Battery : For week Ist to 7th insts., 10 stamps ran 26.75 hours, crushing appros. 27 tons, worth £5 1/2 per ton. From plates and berdan recovered llSoz, and from clean up of stamper boxes 198oz, making a total for the fortnight of 4020z amalgam. This has been retorted and smelted to approx. 950z. The Medical Officer of Health, Auckland, has recommended to the Harbour Board to adopt the barge system for the collection of refuse from ships, similar to that provided for the ships of the U.S. Fleet. He points out that the barge system is in vogue in Wellington and Sydney. The Wellington Board has intimated that there was no barge system in operation at Wellington, though a special arrangement was made with a local tug contractor to carry out the work during- the visit of the U.S. Fleet. The Auckland Board has the matter under consideration. Regarding the proposed additional reclamation at Bayswater, the Takapuna, Tramways and Ferries Company has asked the Harbour Board to grant a lease of 42 years, instead of 21 years, as suggested, provision to be made for an additional rental at the expiry of 21 years. ___«____—.
