THE PRIME MINISTER.

A BATTALION DINNER. "He was one of the finest officers who was ever on the field with a battalion. He is a soldier and a man," declared one speaker at a gathering of ex-members of the First Auckland Battalion last night. The meeting had been convened to decide upon organising a function to do honour to Mr. Coates, who, as major of the battalion, was extremely popular with tooth officers and meh. It was unanimously decided to tender a dinner to the Prime Minister during his visit to Auckland at the end of the month.
