GIRLS' INTER-HOUSE SPORTS.

A FINE PROGRAMME. ADDITIONAL EVENTS. When, in November of last year, Miss Jean Stevenson, of the Y.W.C.A. after much organising work, introduced a novelty to Auckland in the shape of the girls' inter-house sports, it was the unanimous opinion of those who patronised Car law Park and enjoyed the carnival that the sports would become an annual fixture. Unfortunately last year the weather was unkind and halfway through the programme a postponement had to be made owing to heavy rain falling, but despite this the carnival was on all sides voted a sue-

The sports were quite an innovation here, but encouragement was given in all directions, with the result that for the second carnival, which will be held early next month, an extensive and attractive programme of events has been drawn up. The girls in the majority of the city's prominent drapery and clothing establishments are very enthusiastic, and already 15 houses have intimated that they will be represented by teams of a dozen girl* each. So great is the interest that although the carnival is yet a few days over four weeks off. the girU are train-ing-solidly at the Domain in the evenings and also at the Drill Hall.

An energetic committee has been set up and is working hard to make the carnival worthy of the occasion. The programme mapped out is comprehensive, with variety a? it? keynote, and in addition to the item? presented last j year others have been arranged. A massed gymnastic display will open the sports, to be followed by the spectacular grand march, which was the star item last year. This time the various teams will be wearing uniforms of a different colour to those of twelve months ago. Zig-zag ball passing, overhead ball passing, relay races, obstacle race, and something new in a race in which the girls have to go through coloured hoop?, are only a few of the items already decided upon. If work and enthusiasm make for success then the second inter-house erirls' carnival is goin? to be staged well, and provide excellent entertainment both for competitors and public.
