ARRIVED 83 YEARS AGO.
MRS. T. McLAHXON.
One of the very early settlors in Auckland district. Mrs. T. Mcl.arnon, died yesterday afternoon at her residence, 71 Clarence Street, Ponsonby, in the 90th year of her age. Mr*. MeLar-. non arrived in Auckland with her parents in 1842, being a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. B. Hawkes. Their first home was a raupo whare situated near the. old windmill at Mount Eden, which 83 years ago was away in the country. Her mother died shortly after the arrival of the family in Auckland. For many years the little girl acted as housekeeper for her father, who was one of the early farmers on the Tamaki side. Like nil the early settlers, the family faced hardship anri many privations in the work of making a new country. Mrs. McLarnon knew Bishop <!. A. Svlwynnnd his wife. Her father later nsoved from Tamaki in Pokeno to carve a home out of the bush. Finally ho settled iit Papatoctoe where his daughter married Mr. Thomas 't. McLarnoi). In recpiit years . Mrs. MeLarnon, with one of her dit-uphters, came to the city and lias resiopii >\r Ponsonby. She is survived hy 12 sons and daughters, 30 grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. Thu interment takes placo to-morrow afternoon at Holy Trinity Cemetery, Otahulni. During her S3 years' residence in the Auckland district, Mrs. McLarnon witnessed the wonderful development of Auckland from a small village on the fhores of the Waitemata to the fine city of to-day.
