IMPROVING THE ROADS

SUGGESTIONS TO MOUNT EDEN COUNCIL. Proposals for additional street improvements were brought before the Mount Eden Borough Council at its meeting last night hy the Mayor, Mr. E. H. Potter. He stated that the proposals included the paving of Boundary, Balmoral, and Grange Roads, the three principal connecting links between Dominion Road and Mount Eden Road, with an ISft strip of concrete, with bitumen on each side. A considerable amount of traffic was being carried by the roads, and in places they were showing signs of breaking up. Mr. Potter proposed that the following new streets should be paved in bitumen: Calgary Street, Halesowen Avenue, Tennyson Street. Glenalmond Road, Shackleton Road, Sunglen Avenue. Wembley Road, Lambeth Road, "Watling Street, Garry Road, Mount Pleasant Road Extension, eide roads of Mount Eden Road, and the continuation of Sylvan Avenue through Wynyard Road to Porter's Avenue. The proposals were referred to th<-> Works Committee for consideration. It was pointed out that if they could not be financed out of the existing funds it would be necessary to raise a loan for the purpose.
