TABLET PORTERS' WAGES.
(To the Editor.l Sir, —I notice that important concessions have been made to the second division of the railway employees excepting the tablet porter. Being tiie wife of one of those unfortunates, and the mother of four children lall attending school). and not in a railway house, although not for the want of asking, I would like to know why an exception is made of them. They are already working for eighteen shillings less than any other member ol the second division, and while on duty have to act as S.M.. clerk, shunter and porter combined, and have the entire responsibility of the station, while a porter working under air S.M. has not. Then. again, all tablet porters have to be married men, and my husband has over £1 deducted every month for superannuation. Perhaps some of your readers could enlighten mc as to why two porters should be treated differently when they do exactly the same duties, the only difference being that one works by himself and the other under an S.M. Now it will mean over £1 difference in wages. and in lots nf cases it is the single porter who gets the bigger wage.— 1 am, etc., WIFE.OF TABLET PORTER.
