THE ROAD TO WHITFORD.
SUGGESTED MAIN HICtfIWAYS. RATEPAYERS AND IMPROVEMENTS improvements in the roading of the Turanga riding of the Manukau County Council were discussed at a meeting of | ratepayers at the week-end. Mr. Granger , ( member for the riding) presided over, an attendance of about "30 ratepayers. I A proposal to raise a loan for the! construction and remetalling of the main road from Maungaroa bridge to Marae- j tai wharf was fully explained by the < chairman, the county chairman, and the i engineer, the estimated cost being £20,650. After a lengthy discussion it was decided to take no further action in regard to the loan. The meeting then resolved to ask the Main Highways Board to declare the following roads main highways: (1) The I road from the junction of the Great! South Road at the Harp of Erin, leading ! from Ellerslie, Panmure, Ho wick, to Whitford; (2) the Tamaki-Howick road, from its intersection with the Great South Road, past the East Tamaki depot, and via Saleyards road, to intersept with the Howick-Whitford road: (3) the road from Weymouth, via Manurewa, Alfrjston, Brookby, to ita intersection with the Howick-Whitford road; (4) the Papakura-Olevedon road, from its intersection with the Great South Road tP Clevedon township; (s).the road from the Mangere bridge, via Coronation Road, McKenzie Road, Kirkbride Road, Massey Rqad, Buckland Road, to Station Road West, in the Papatoetoe town district; (6) the road in the Papatoetoe town district known as Station "Road West, Station Road East, and via Carruth Road, Puhinui Road, to the intersection of the latter with the Great j South" Road, A further resolution was carried that a scheme be brought forward to provide! a loan for metalling the u nmetailed por-! tion of the main road near Maraetai, I apd gutting back points on the Maungaroa Gorge Road.
