The ketch Rira is now en route irom Auckland to Melbourne. The ketch Miro is now on her way from Auckland to Duned'in with a cargo of explosives. The steamer Zinal is" expected to undock to-morrow. She will then go to an anchorage ln the stream to await a settlement in the seamen's strike. The Nobel Explosive topsail schooner Tiri is now due at Hokianga from Auckland to load timber for Melbourne. She has been delayed off the coast by unfavourable weather; The Richardson steamer Awahou was to leave Gisborne this afternoon for Auckland. On arrival she will land a number of sheep at Orakei before berthing at Auckland to load for her return trip. The Richardson Company's steamer Pakura is expected to leave Napier for Auckland direct on Thursday next. At this port she will load cargo for Gisborne, Tokoniaru Bay, Tologa Bay and Napier, The Australian-Commonwealth cargo steamer Fordsdale has broken the record for the world's trading vessels 'by reaching Swansea in 27 days from Freinantle. The journey from Alexandria occupied 200 hours, which is another record. The Forsdale was built at Cockatoo, and the fine steaming performance is another triumph for the skill and workmanship of the Government dockyards.

KAIWARRA BRINGING COAL. Carrying a full cargo of coal, the Union Company's freighter Kaiwarra cleared Newcastle for Auckland on Saturday morning last. She is due to arrive at this port at the end of the present week. SUSSEX FOR THE SOUTH. CANADIAN SPINNER IN POUT. An arrival at Auckland yesterday afternoon was the Canadian Government steamer Canadian Spinner, with general cargo from Montreal. On arrival she anchored in the stream for inspection, and later berthed at the Prince's wharf to put out the local portion of her cargo before proceeding to southern ports to complete discharge and to commence loading for New York, Boston, and Halifax. Leaving Montreal on July 25, the Canadian Spinner experienced an uneventful run to Panama, where she arrived on August 12. In the Pacific Ocean favourable conditions were encountered until Pitcairn Island was passed. Thence the freighter encountered a series of westerly gales, which considerably retarded her progress. The boisterous conditions continued until the vessel gained the Shelter of the New Zealand coast, her .arrival at this port being delayed by about four days. Captain W. J. Davis is in command of the steamer, and has with him the following officers:—Chief, Mr; J. F. Carlson ; second, Mr. A. Brown: third, Mr. S. Fitzgerald; chief engineer, Mr. J. M. Beal; second, Mr. D.Buckingham; third, Mr. D.. C. Junor; fourth, Mr. K. A. Nash ; wireless operator, Mr. W. Snailham ; chief steward, Mr. A. R. Welsh. The Canadian Spinner is expected to leave Auckland about 4 o'clock this afternoon for southern ports. She is due to return to 'this port to'complete her cargo about October 1.

TRIAL TBIP OF THE S.S. KARTIGL The handsome collier ana, general, cargo steamer, Kartigi, _built by Messrs. William Gray and Co., Ltd., to the order of the Union Steamship Company of New Zealand, Ltd., successfully ran her official sea trials in Hartlepool Bay recently. The vessel is built on the • top side cantilever frame system, arid is of the following dimensions r—Length overall 292 ft 6m, breadth 44ft 31ri, depth 21ft ljin with poop, bridge, winch decks, and forecastle, and is self-trimming. The double bottom topside tanks and large after and forepeaks are constructed for .the carriage or water ballast. Steam winches and a warping winch aft, ten stoop derricks and ten coaling gaffs for the quick handling of cargo; stertm steering gear direct on the rudder, with telcmotor control on the bridge, steam windlass, stockless anchors; fore and aft rig lifeboats carried on Welln davits, nnd steel hatch covers to the main hatchways of the Hogg-Carr patent corrugated type arc fitted. In completion of her voyage from Vancouver the Union Co.'s Royal Mail steamer Niagara is announced to leave Auckland lor ayaney at 10 o'clock this evening* She is berthed at the western side of the Central wharf. FLORA ARRIVES FRIDAY. Returning from Cook Islands with a cargo of fruit, the Union Co.'s cargo steamer Flora has reported by wireless that she expects to arrive at Auckland dn Friday afternoon next.
