TO THE NORTH POLE.
AMTTJfDSEJTS INTENTIONS. AID FROM ITALY. LONDON, September 11. The Rome correspondent of the '""Dailv Telegraph" says that under the terms of Captain Raold Amundsen's contract for the purchase of the Italian Government's dirigible, the Government will co-operate to an important degree to ensure the success of the proposed expedition to the North Pole. In addition to supplying the pilot and crew, the Government has stipulated the region which is to be covered in the flight It has guaranteed the delivery of the airship at a Polar base. The Government has also undertaken to establish supply stations for provisions and materials. It even proposes to erect hangars at several points in the Arctic.— (A. and N.Z. Cable.) SB. The Geneva correspondent of the ,f Da : ly Express" states that Dr. Nansen, the famous explorer, said he was convinced that the next aerial expedition to the North Pole would succeed. He had always believed that the aeroplane was unsuitable for such a flight because it could not carry wireless like an airship.
