RAILWAY DEVIATION.
WORK AT PAEROA. CBy Telegraph.—Special to "Star.") TB AEOHA, this day. The new station building at Paeioa, necessitated through deviation of the line, and yard reconstruction in connec- ; ton with the proposed Paeroa-Pokeno railway,, was opened last -week. The work ■ includes a new double tracked bridge over the Ohinemuri River, raised the above the former bridge level, and the deviation excludes over two miles of j through running. The lines, estimated [to cost about £54,000, should be comj pleted in three months from date. Owing to the flooding of the surrounding country by periodical overflowing of the Ohinemuri River, a bank has been built on both sides, the same a3 in Holland, to protect the country, and this h&3 j involved the corresponding raising of the railway bridge, which crossed the river at this point. The longest piles used in constructing the bridge had to be driven 80ft below the rail level. A marked improvement in yard accommodation has been obtained by the alterations both at the station and the yards, which are now lighted by electricity. The neir yards are situated ha!f-a-mile nearer the Thames than fonnerlv. to meet the conditions created by the opening of the i Paeroa-Waihi line. : ■
