The Wanganui Racing Club's Spring Meeting was held to-day in fine though cold weather. The track was in good order and there was a good attendance. An inquiry was held concerning the running of Ring the Bell in the Dnrle Hack Handicap, and the stewards expressed themselves as -dissatisfied, but. on the evidence, decided not to take action. The Opening Event. The programme opened with the Maiden Race, for which all paraded, with the exception of Ho run ten. Tbe public went for Star Stranger, which was entrusted with about £1100 more than Aaavale. while First Acre, was nearly as well supported ns the latter. From n good start Adavalc, Minoius. and First Acre were the first to show out, but 'before a couple of furlongs had been traversed First Aero had run to the front, and led across the top from Adavale. OirrlbilHe. Mlnotus. Star Stranger. Oress Circle. Soveua. and Bonny Dawn. First Acre was still the pilot entering the straight from Adavale, Miuotus, Girribillie, Star stranger and Royal Mint. Hall way down Star Stranger put in a challenge, but failed to reach First Acre by a length ami a quarter. Minottrs was three lengths away, third, and Royal Mint, Adavale, Chor, 'Soveua and Gold Collector next. ITrst Acre won well, and had the advantage of Star Stranger tnroughout. Adavale should be improved with the race. The Hurdles. Santiago was the only defection from tiie Okehu .Handicap Hurdles. Omahu was made about ±50 better favourite than Prince Rufus, while Otanru Kid was well fancied. When they were let go. Askari. Omahu and Otanru Kid went to the front, but before the stands were reached Otaurn Kid was in charge from Prince Rufus. Askari. First Line aud Omahu. Passin' Through having fallen at the second hurdle. Otauru Kid was still the pilot along the back from Prince Rufus, Askari, Omahu and First Line. Otauru Kid and Prince Rufus drew out across the top, with Askari heading the others. In a good finish Otauru Kid stalled off Prince Rufus. to win by a length and a half, with Askari three lengths away, third". Omahu was fourth. Prince Rufus seemed to let the winner gee too far away from him in the early stages. He may do better on Saturday. Te Monanui Wins. Star Ranger was made a good favourite for tho Putiki Hack Race, with Te Monanui and Bon 'Homme next in request. FuwfintO was first to show out from Revel, De Luxe, Te Monanui, Trollus. Tino Maunga and Star Ranger. Along the back Puwhato waS still the pilot, with Revel, Te Monanui, De Luxe, Star Ranger, Trollus, Tino Maunga and Bon Homme racing in that order. Puwhato, De Luxe, Bon- Homnie aud Troilus were next. There was a fair amount, of bumpittg in ..the. race. Troilus and De /.'Duxe C'Shea kept -,Te.' ( Monanui-'wielL t out "df tiie trouble, and J-Otle' a very fine "race. •-■' * f A Good Finish. All went to the post for the Jumpers' Flat Handicap, a"d it proved a most exciting race. Dubious was the hottest favourite of the day, carrying ' over three times as tuuth as Lady Comet, with Santiago and Tinokaha, which were each entrusted with £30 less than Lady Comet, most sought after ot the others. Sir Fanciful and Tinokaha were first to show out, hut the latter soon ran to the front, and going past the stewards' stand was attended by Santiago. Tinokaha led along tyie back from Dubious and Santiago (together), Bonecto, and Lady Comet. Dubions- ran up to Tinokaha crossing the top, With Santiago on their heels, and Lady Comet and Bonecto next. Santiago put in a run on the outside before the straight wns reached, nnd was first to turn for home from Dubious and Lady Comet. At the distance Santiago, which was ridden by S. AValls. was being proclaimed the winner, but Keesing then sat down on Dubious, and, iv a great finish, just got up ou the post tv win by a nose. Sir Fanciful, Bonecto, and Tinokaha passed the post in that order. The Guineas. The Wansartui. Guineas attracted a field of- six. Father O'Flynn, after his recent victory at Trentham, and his g°od race over a mile behind Kilfaire and Potoanut at the same fixture, was made about SOUsovs better favourite than Star Area, with Mimetic next fancied. From a good start Star Area,- The Thorn, and Father u'Flynn were the first to show out at they turned out of the straight. 'By the time the sixfurlong post was reached Father O'Flynn was in charge from Tho Thorn, Xadarino, Star Area, Mimetic and Maudane. Four furlongs from homo Father O'Flynn was going along nicely ia front of The Thorn and Xadarino, with Mimetic, Star Area, and Mandanc next. Father O'Flynn held his place across the top aud into the straight, attended by Mimetic, The Thorn, Mandane, and Star Area. Father O'Flynn held his own till the finish, and beat the fast-finishing Star Area by half a lengtn, with Mundane a similar distance away, third. Mimetic, Xadarino, and The Thorn were next. A Fine Dividend. •Elysianor and Pa radon were the defections from the Durie Hack Handicap. Indian Sage (which won at Martou) was the principal fancy, with King Potoa and Anklet next in favour. The race resulted in a surprise, for the little-fancied Bouogne, which is trained by E. Murtagh at Hawera, • won practically from end to end. When the field settled down Bouogne was in front, from Anklet, Lucrative, Ring the Bell, Ring Potoa, and Indian. Sage. Bonogne led across the top from Lucrative, Anklet,, Ring the 'Bell, Ring Potoa, and Vaward.' Bonogne was first into the straight from Lucrative, Ring Potoa, Indian Sage, Anklet, and Ring the Bell. Bonogne went on to win by hnlf a length from Ring Potoa, which beat fndinn Sage by half a length. Lucrative and Fillette were almost up with Indian Sage, while Miss I.upana. Empire Camp, and Vaward were next. The winner returned nearly half a century. The Banker in Form. All started in the Maranga Handicap with the exception of Some Red. Royal Divorce was made a good favourite, carrying £220 more than The Banker, while Barrier and Imperial Spark were next in request. When the field got fairly settled down lonia was well" clear of Euphonium, Crossfire, Kilceif, Barrier and Spoony, and they raced in this order along the back to the four flirlong-"post, where Alaric wns second to Yoma, with Kilceit, Crossfire, Nllkumai and The Banker next. Yoma led across thetop from Alaric, Spoony, Crossfire and The Banker, but as they turned for home all the leading division were bunched. Alaric ithen drew out slightly, but The Banker put in a great tun on the outside, and got up in time to beat Alaric by a neck. Spoony was a length away, third, with Yomn, Avola, Royal Divorce, and Imperial Spark next. Two Divisions. Owing to the number of starters the Flying Handicap was divided into two, the totallsator being only o»ened once on the event, as it made nine races for the day. Most support Went • .to Lady Cavendish, with Nigger Minstrel (which looked on the big side) carrying about £450 less, while Ilka" and Archeen were next sought after. In the first division Lady Comet was quickly in front, with Ilka, Dan Quin, King's Speech, Gold Box and Gaillard racing as named. ■ Lady Cavendish led across the top from Ilka, King's Speech, Dan Quin, Gaillard and Inferno. Gaillard joined Lady Cavendish as they turned for home, with King's Speech, Ilka and Inferno next. Gaillard then took charge, and went on to win \}y a length and a-half from Inferno, which beat Lady Cavendish by half a length. King's Speech, Lucius, Kehutai and Rational were next.
