TE PUKE HOSPITAL.
* —-. THE OFFICIAL OPENING. (From Our Own Correspondent.) i TE PUKE, Saturday. The official opening of the new Te Puke Hospital and maternity home took place this afternoon. The site of the building is on rising ground close to the I town, and easy of access from all parts Jof the district. The main entrance is on the south side, where a large portico supported by concrete pillars gives a fine appearance to the building. Viewed I from the town 'as one approaches the hospital the architecture of the building is very disappointing, beauty of design having been sacrificed to utility purposes. Once inside thn building, however, it is apparent that here we have a fine, useful hospital. The building is constructed of hollow concrete blocks, with tiled roof. In the absence of the Hon. Sir Maui Pomare, Minister of Health, the opening ceremony was conducted by Mr. Thomas Lockhead, chairman of the Tauranga Hospital Board. Representatives from several local bodies were present, also-a large number of people from all parts of the country. Amongst the speakers were Mr. R. Kery, chairman of the County Council and member of the board. Mr. Dive, Mayor of Tauranga, and Mr. H. O. Cooney, chairman of the Town Board.
