CULL COW PROBLEM.
1 J IXGEXIOUS SOLUTION. District "drives"' to collect cull cows from the farms and deliver them at tho works for killing, .have 'proved satisfactory in the Wairarapa. The secretary of that branch of the Farmers' Union lias stated: "We have held seven drives since April, totalling approximately 1000 cows with never a. hitch. In each of the nearer drives our expenses amounted to 1/ per cow, while in the drives occupying four and five days -\ve have not yet exceeded a cost of 2/ per cow. General I satisfaction witih ihe scheme 13 expressed j throughout the district, and r.ext season we anticipate holding quarterly drives from each area, and anticipate 2500 cows. Bulls, steers, calvos, and even fat cattle have been included, and each is graded and priced accordingly. Our highest individual price was £6 17/6 and our lowest 15/, which is allowing for condemned cows, of which avo have had a remarkably low average. Our average price throughout was approximately j£2 7/6."
