DISCHARGING THE KENT.
• i TONS OF CARGO RUINED. Good progress is being made in the discharge of the cargo from the" Federal cargo steamer Kent, which caught fire in Auckland Harbour on the 3rd instant. The Kent is alongside the King's wharf and the debris is being stacked i temporarily in order that it may be examined, and then dumped as far as • the utterly spoiled stuff is concerned. So far only rubbish has been retrieved from the blackened holds, and it is very doubtful whether anything of value will be found in No. 2 bold which was the one where the fire broke out. It is estimated that between 3000 and 4000 tons of cargo has been affected by the fire and will have-to be discharged. ■ Until the whole of this ha 3 been put out it will be impossible to say what ■ damage has been done to the hull, but so far appearances do not give the impression that it has been seriously injured. Presumably the whole of the insulation has been ruined, and this will be a costly item to replace. It has not yet been decided what repairs will be carried out in the Dominion. DUNEDIN CARGO LIST. (By Telegrapn.—Own Correspondent.) DUNEDIN, this day. | The Kent has on board 1300 tons of apsorted freight for Dunedin, some of which was stowed in No. 2 bold. The goeds there are described in the stowage plan as "case and bale goods, tobacco, and machinery." It has'been stated that the cargo included a number of Exhibition exhibits. The Exhibition authorities cannot say if that is so, but the ship's ■ papers disclose that apparently the only cargo for the Exhibition is some 13 case*3 of salt.
