Statements recently made in a letter to the editor of the "Lyttelton Titnee" by Miss B. E. Baughan", a well-known worker for prison reform, that the concrete of which the cells at Paparua prieon is made is faulty, and that in many cells the walls ooze with water in wet weather, were investigated by a '"Lyttelton Times*' reporter, who visited the prieon on Saturday afternoon. The reporter found, after a thorough inspection of the ceils, that the statements could not be substantiated, and that reasonable provision is made for the comfort of prisoners.
