McMILLAN EXPEDITION.
SHIPS GO SOUTHWARD. ALL HANDS WELL. WASHINGTON, August 30. The ships of the McMillan Arctic expedition, the Peary and Bowdoin, are making good headway southward, according to a dispatch from Captain McMillan to the National Geographic Society. This says: “We had a remarkable run across Melville Bay, with a strong, fair wind and no ice. We left Greenland on Friday and are now off Vpernivik, 73deg north latitude, free of all icefields. We should arrive at Diske this afternoon. The Peary will proceed to Umanak for coal and the Bowdoin to Ededesminde for fuel oil. All the members of the party are well.” A later message says that the ships have encountered heavy weather and snowstorms, and their progress has been delayed.— (A. and N.Z. and Reuter.)
