SAN FRANCISCO TO HAWAII.
PROPOSED U.S. NAVY FLIGHT. (Received 10 a.m.) WASHINGTON, August 13. Two naval destroyers, William Jones and McCauley, will be assigned to guard the proposed airplane flight from Son Francisco to Hawaii. Complete radio compass and radio communication tests between the 'planes and the destroyers will be worked out prior to the start. The destroyers later will take a position in the Pacific for rendering any possible assistance to fliers.— (A. and N.Z. Cable.) The U.S. Navy Department announced in June that the naval aeroplane flight from the Pacific Coast to Hawaii would begin On September 2, either from San Francisco or San Diego, Captain Stanford Moses, commander of the aircraft squadron of /the American battle fleet. i 3 to command the flight, and it was said the route would be patrolled by 10 vessels. The names of the vessels have recently been published. The delay in selecting the city from which to hop off was occasioned by a keen but friendly rivalry between San Francisco and San Diego.
