ADMITTED TO PROBATION.

j A young man named Frank Rodder, for whom Mr. Blakey appeared, pleaded • guilty at the Police Court this morning to a charge of obtaining the sum of £1 15/ from a pawnbroker by false pretences and also to another of obtaining £10 10/ from Joseph Heares by falsely repree*ai,ting that this sum was required for the delivery of a suit. Mr. Blakey said that accused was a tailor who had started business without capital. Soon after he commenced business lie found himself in difficulties and took a suit which had been left with him for alteration, to the pawnshop. He had hoped to redeem it when he received money from his customers. The charges were not as serious as they looked and counsel suggested that the case was one in which probation might well be extended. Accused could obtain work and would J make restitution. Chief Detective Cummings said that Rodder was inclined to be a little lazy and frequented billiard saloons. The magistrate admitted accused to two years probation and ordered that his recreations and associates should be under tlic control of the Probation Ollicer.
