GETTING THE 'PHONE.
(To the Editor.) Sir,- I heartily endorse the remarks of "Pro Bono Publico" in an earlier edition of the "Star," as I find myself in exactly the same position concerning the getting, or rather the non-getting of a telephone connection. I applied just on four months Ago, paid the necessary £1 application fee, and was told that I would have to wait at least three months. The three has now lengthened to four, and still no sign of a telephone. WViat the telephone branch of the Post and Telegraph Department needs is a little healthy competition, such as the tramways are experiencing, to shake and wake them up a bit. This Government and municipal control of public services is not what it is cracked up to be by a long way. —I am, etc., "V ICTIM.
