GREETINGS TO VISITORS.
WELCOME FROM GOVERNMENT,
The following wireless message was dispatched early this morning to Admiral S. S. Robison by Kir James Parr, Minister representing the Government in Auckland for the occasion of the visit to tin's port of a section of the United States battle fleet:— "Admiral S. S. Robison, CoraraanJer-in-Chief, United States Battle Fleet, Flagship California, — ''Speaking for the Government and people of New Zealand, we greet \on and your officers and men this morning with good weather and goodwill. May your stay with us be as pleasant as we all most heartily desire to make it. Our people deeply appreciate the great honour the Republic pays our country by this visit, and very sincerely reciprocate your country's gesture of friendliness and amity.— (Signed) C. J. Parr, Minister of Justice and Education, Post-inaster-Oeneral and Minister of Telegraphs." Sir James Parr received the following reply: — U.S.s. California, August 11. Sir James Parr, — On behalf of the officers and men of the United States Fleet visiting Auckland. I thank you for your courteous greeting from the Government and people of New Zealand. We are aware of the good fortune which has fallen to us as representatives of the United States in bringing to Xew Zealand the goodwill and continued esteem of our country. We look forward with the greatest pleasure to a closer personal contact with a people whom Americans have learned to hold in the highest regard. (Signed) g. S. ROBISOX.
