SCENES IN QUEEN STREET.
Seldom, if ever, lias there been seen tlio crowds-that thronged Queen Street jitter the fleet had dropped anchor. From every direction they tame, and all with the sole idea of making the main street of Auckland their rendezvous. There were young and old. short and tall, fond mothers with several children trailing along, firmly grasping hands or skirts, people rrom the country, and all sorts and all descriptions, adding their quota to the narrow precincts of Queen Street. The shops that were open did not attract much attention, but the restaurants and tea rooms were doing a record business, and every place in the city had a huge waiting list. To walk up. Queen Street was to undertake a contract, and as one person was heard to remark: "It would take a Inn;,' time to walk a mile in this crush."
