HAMILTON, thi» day. Some time ago the Auckland committee which was set up in connection with the national memorial to the late Prime Minister, wrote to the Hamilton Borough Council soliciting support. The council had already taken action in the matter by issuing subscription lists, but there was no response. The council was of opinion that the matter was one rather for Parliament to make a grant than ."jr public subscription. " The Chamber of Commerce is now of a similar opinion, and it was decided to reply to this effect.
