A YOUTHFUL PRANK.
(To the Editor.) Sir,—Referring to the report of the prosecution of a boy for throwing a stone on a house in Jubilee Road. Ellerslie. I would like to state that one evening about two weeks ago a stone was thrown on the roof of this house. Immediately after the occurrence a boy of the same name as that mentioned in Court called at the door, and like a man, admitted what he had done and offered a humble apology. The apology was accepted and the lad was forgiven. If the Court case refers to this incident (but of this 1 have no knowledge) I am at a loss to understand why proceedings were taken. We lodged no complaint. Further, in a trivial case of this kind, should not the boy's name have been suppressed ? And. finally. I think the fine imposed was greater than the circumstances demanded. In this case justice might well have been tempered with mercy, and the boy admonished and discharged.—l am. etc.. <i. W. BLAIR. Kllerslie, August 8. 192.'>.
