OFFICIAL COMPLIMENTS.
CONSUL AND CIVIC OFFICIALS. PINNACES COME TO WHARF. Three pinnaces from the California, manned by "Jackies," and in charge of an officer each, arrived at the Admiralty Steps shortly before 2 o'clock for the purpose of conveying the Deputy Mayor (Mr. J. A. Warnoek), the Town CJerk (Mr. Brigham), the chairman of the Harbour Board (Mr. H. Mackenzie), the American Consul (Mr. -Walter P. Boyle), and representatives of the police, to pay their compliments to Admiral Robison. Later Colonel H. R, Potter (Officer Commanding the Northern Command I, and
Lieut-Colonel J. E. Duigan (Chief Staff Officer), were- conveyed on a similar mission. Prior to their departure Capt. Sergeant arrived, after piloting the California into the harbour. A guard of honour was formed "on the wharf by the Ist Auckland Regiment, its hand being aleo in attendance. A xery large crowd gathered on the wharf and stretched out through the gates in anticipation of the Admiral coming They were very este'd in the different style of uniform worn by the American sailors, especially the little white cape. The hooters on the slock and shining pinnaces also attracted attention, these being "hooted" before the boats left the steps and before they emerged into the harbour from the end of the wharf.
