FELL OVERBOARD.
FERRY PASSENGER'S MISHAP. MEN-O'-WARSMEN TO THE RESCUE. Screams from a woman were heard on board the - Devonport ferry steamer Peregrine last evening on the nine o'clock trip from town, and two sailors of the H.M.s. Philomel, Mark Anthony and H. W. Harris, rushed to the place, where they found a woman whose husband had either jumped or fallen overboard. The two men-o'-warsmen raised the alarm, the ferry was stopped, and they promptly lowered the ferry boat's dinghy, and pulled to the rescue. There was a bright moon, fortunately, and the man was easily distinguished. When rescued he was almost unconscious. Taken across to Devonport, he was handed over to the care of the police, who got him some dry clothes and called in Dr. Reid who did what he could for the man. The police then brought the still only semi-conscious man across to the Auckland Hospital, where he was attended to, and this morning was pronounced out of danger. As far as can be ascertained the man is Mr. David Davidson, aged 53, of St. Benedict's Street, City. He has been in ill-health for some time and last night was going out with his wife for some fresh air.
