At the ■weekly meetlngvlast night of. the Auckland Rugby. Union executive, Mr, Harry Frost presiding, the date of the i^iS? 168 return match was confirmed- 1 for September 26, and Mr. P; McElwain was aMWlnted manager ot the Auckland team fofc the trip. Kalpara schools reps., as a curtain raiser to the Auckland-Canterbury rep. match. The Thames Valley Union accepted September 12 for the match t. Auckland at Te Aroba, and it was decided to ask for a guarantee of £25. A donation of £25 was made towards the expenses of. the King Country team, which visits Auckland on August 19. It was decided to send a rep. team to play the Hamilton reps, at Hamilton on September 5. Permission was granted to the referees to play a match at Helensville on August 2a, and the King's College to play Wanganui Collegiate School on August 19 at Mangere. and to play their second fifteen against Pufcekohe High School at Pukekohe on August 15 ; also to Training College to play Wellington Training College at the : Domain on August 12. [ It.was decided to play the Pollard Cup matches throughout the rep. fixtures. The committee sent a- letter of congratulation to the Suburbs Club on its efforts to pro- ; mote the game in Its district. A request by R. E. Hunter for financial assistance in a project of sending the Rugby team, privately organised, through the Islands, was discussed, the matter having been referred to the union by the. A WIN FOR WAIKATO. BUSH UNION BEATEN. j (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) PAHIATUA, Wednesday. Waikato played Bosh Union In the third match of the tour to-day. In an uninspiring game Waikato won by 16 to 1 IS. The visitors were-superior in back play, bat the opposition vanguard were the best. Waikato led at half-time by 11 to 8, Waikato scoring through Clemett, Thompson, T. Johnston, Mitchell converting one. 3. Galvin and Tiree scored for-Bush, P. Galvin converting. Bush took the lead after twenty minutes' play in the second half, by a try by Tiree, which Udy converted, but this was responded to by a try by Charlston (Waikato), converted by Mitchell, and the game ended with Waikato attacking hard. Howard was out of the visiting team. WELLINGTON Y. SOUTHLAND. SOUTHERNERS LACK FINISH. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. In the first half Southland had the best of the game, their heavy forwards at times dominating play, but they did not finish up' their movements, and several chances to score were not availed of. Bell (.Southland), of whom much was expected, was starved, while Walshe was only fair at half, and Ottrey was disappointing. The forwards played with plenty of dash, and considering their weight were a.very fast pack. Alley, Hazlett and Burt' were the pick of a fine lot, and the former was voted the best forward on .the ground. Johnson played the beat back game for the winners. Nlcholls did not play up to his usual form. Svenson and Bedell both made the most of their opportunities when the ball came their way. Tllyard was poor. The diminutive Warwick was in the thick of it. Thomas, Mfttheson, Young and Sly were the most prominent of the Wellington forwards. Mackenzie, at wing forward, made a promising debut in representative football.

In the first half, Ottrey worked the blind side and Murray took a pass And scored. The kick went wide. This was the visitors' only score. From fine passing by Warwick, Nlcholls, Svenson, Nlchblls and Warwick ended in a score by Warwick, and Nlcholls converted. Some vigorous play followed. Bedell, Svenson, Nlcholls and Warwick participated in attacking movements. Nlcholls having some shots at goal, and eventually he put one over. Southland forwards played excellent Rugby.' and came down field with considerable dash. Svenson, Warwick, Nicholls and Bedell were prominent at times, .and Svenson secured and sent to Walters near the visitors' line, and the Wellington full back scored., Nicholls' kick just failed. After give and Take play an illegal,- tackle by the visitors gave Nicholls a." chance, and he landed a flr.e goal. The Wellington forwards then displayed more dash, and had the visitors guessing for a period. In a gaiu'ral scramble Thomas picked up, dived over, and Nicholls go*led. The final score at the end of a hard-fought game was 19-3.
