' The hand-worked signals used by the policemen on point duty in the city are a. decided acquisition in the matter of the regulation of the traffic. Owing to some defect the signal at the intersection of Symonds Street and Karanga•hape Road was not in working order at the rush hour to-day. As a result the policeman on point duty had a strenuous time, his' arms -working like flails' until the rush of traffic had subsided.
