A LONELY MONARCH.

• _ KING BORIS' SORROWS. Prince Cyril, youngest brother of King Boris of Bulgaria, has been invited 'by the Government to visit Sofia for several months. It' is flatly denied that King Boris- is thinking of abdicating, but tbe attempt to. assassinate him and the recent bomb outrage at St. Nedelia"s Cathedral have deeply depressed him, and Prince Cyril," who has a strong character, is to be his companion and take over sonic of his most disagreeable duties. "I am very unhappy." King. Boris is reported, to have confided to a foreign visitor recently. "I dream of having a wife and a cottage somewhere amid my flowers; but instead lam constantly menaced. I had at least a hundred dear friends torn to pieces in the St. Nedelia Cathedral outrage; my people are fighting amongst themselves; we have foreign enemies, aiid there is no end to it all. I am not responsible for the Government policy. My father was accused of ruling Bulgaria; I have therefore reigned, but never ruled." Observers declare that King Boris is a very lonely figure, for he has decided that it is not fair to ask any Princess to sit on such a shaky throne. He lives all alone in the big castle in Sofia in which King Ferdinand, the "old fox" of the Balkans, broke his mother's heart by baptising 'him in Orthodox, instead of in her Catholic faith, and the castle is still haunted by these memories.- . . t
