WORKERS IN CONFERENCE.

THE COMPENSATION ISSUE. GENEVA, May 28. A discussion took place yesterday at the International labour Conference on workmen's compensation. The matter I under consideration was a proposal by! the Irish Free State delegates urging I the exclusion from compensation benefits j of non-manual workers whose remunera-1 iion exceeded a fixed limit. j Mr. L. McNeill asked the committee I to approve an amendment suhmitted by the employers' group. This was to the effect that those in receipt of considerable salaries were well able to insure themselves, and that they would lose their sense of responsibility if they submitted to a general compensation scheme. The Night Bakery Committee carried the amendments provisionally adopted by the convention, to the effect that the limits of the befinnin"? and end of the rest period should be fixed by a competent authority in each country, after ! consultation with the organisations of | employers and workers.— (A. and N.Z.)
