OLD CABINET REMAINS. FORMER PORTFOLIOS HELJD VACANCY KOT FILLED. (Bγ TelegTapli.-Sperf.il to "Star.") WELLINGTON, this day. The new Cabinet. I understand on best authority, will for tho present show nc divergence from that which functioned until to-day. All tho old Ministers are being invited by !be new Premier to join his Cabinet, holding their original portfolios. The Prime Minister may endeavour at an pnrlv date to get relict from some of his former heavy duties, but he is credited with the intention of going slowly on questions of changed personnel. For instance, Sir R. H. Rhode*, Minister of Defence, who i-s quite willing to relinquish Ministerial ollice immediately, has placed himself in the hands of the new leader, and will continue in ofliee. It may be a few days, or even weeks before definite changes are made in Ministerial affairs. Already it is well understood that Mr. Coatcs is not disposed to make an appointment to fill the vacancy in the Cabinet. This policy is in accordance with the caucus request to the new leader to seriously explore the possibilities of itn arrangement with the Liberal Opposition. "What would be- said of the new Government." remarked a prominent Ministerial supporter, "if, in face of the strong representations made for amalgamation of the old parties, Mr. f'oates proceeded to make a final selection of his full Cabinet?"
