! APPOINTMENT OF SELECTORS. I DISSATISFACTION KNPRKSSKD. J In certain quarters *tr.-«ng I (li.-.-:iti-lii.ti..!i is pxprp»«ml at the appointment, l.y the New- Zealand Conntil nf tlin M.Wtnm w!.,-,=e duty it w1! j lie In select tho team to tour Australia I It i> contended that in appointing I two of lho throe selectors from members juf the New Zealand Council the latter i liofly has acted in direct opposition to I a remit pa-e-d at tho recent conferJ raw held in Wellington. However, it I appears that there i- some misapprelieiij sion rcjanlini: the exact wording of the remit, and iho.o who are complaining "f the nppuintnipnt uf t!ie selectors are under the impression that tin , remit went I further than it actually did. The remit I in <|iie>ti.,ii emanated from Au~klu:d and provided that of tin- three selectors to be appointed !iy the New Zealand Council, one should rcpre.-eut the Council, one the North 1.-land. and the third the South Inland. There is no doubt the intention of those forwarding the remit was that two of the selectors should be independent of the New Zealand Council, hut the remit did not include this and now that the CoMncil has appointed two members of the Council as selectors, one to represent the Council and llip other the North Island, it is claimed I thai the iiiUTe-U of Auckland, the home i.f leapiie football in the Dominion, have been almost ignored. The Auckland nominated !Mr R. .McDonald as selector for the North Island, while Hawke's Bay, South Aucki land. Manuwatu, and the Wellington j lcugitos all nominated Mr. Pearce, who iis a delegate on the New Zealand Council. The South Island leagues nominated I Mr. llardingham only. When the nominations uero considered by the council Ucssr.-. Pearce, Ilardinghain. and Liversapo, the latter as the Council's representative were appointed. Tho matter was considered at some length by the Auckland Kugby J.cague last evenin-. and it naa decided to enter a Mnmu' protest apain-t the appointmpiit nf two members from the New ZculnnU Council.
