MANUKAU COUNTY COUNCIL.
STATUTORY ANNUAL MEETING. CHAIRMAN'S REI>ORT CONSIDERED. The statutory nnnunl meeting of the Mnnukau Comity Council wns held ypster-daj-day, the county clerk (Mr. K. A»hcr«ft) presiding. The fcllowliic were- iilso present: Crs. F. Kearsley (Walroa Hiding), G. 11. Mortson (Walrnah .1. SI. Davies (Papakura), 8. W. House (Mangere) T. Speechley (Pakuranga), F. SI. Waters (Papatoetoe), and P. Granger (Turanga). On the motion of Cγ. Granger, seconded by Cr. Kcnrsley, Mr. F. M. Waters wns re-elected chanrmnn for the ensuing form. In returning thanks. Mr. Waters thanked members for doing him the honour, and Baid lie would spare do effort to carry out the duties connected with the office. Cr. Kearsley was appointed deputy-chair-mnn. and said he would give the chairman hU wholehearted support. Annual Report. Amongst other things, the chairman's annual report stated that the county plant had been kept fully occupied during the past twelve months. The plant account was in a very satisfactory position. In framing estimates for the past year allowance had been made for £IDOO to be set aside for purchase or renewal of plant. The amount actually expended was £2WS 13/, leaving a balance of £703 5/. Under the I'apatoetoe bridges loan, Whitten's Bridge was re-erected In reinforced concrete at a cost of £1007 4/10. The Wiri Bridge on the Great South Road will also lit: renewed in reinforced concrete at an early date. The Mangere ronds loan work was not carried nut ns well ns could have been desired during the pant year, but change in administration accounted f,,r this, also shortage of metal supplies. At a request of n number of ratepayers of Buokloml's Beacli. sanitary (imvenlrarrs have been erecled for the use'of the public. A similar request from Beachlands could not be dealt with, owing to the inability to obtain a suitable site. In the outlying portion of the county a I good deal of work has been Gone rtiirinc i the past year. The contract for metalling ' completed. In conclusion, the chairman desired to extended to him during the past twelve months by members of the council and staff. Councillors' Remarks. Cr. House, in moving the adoption of the report, congratulated (he chairman on his report. The speaker advocated more attention to closer areas, such as Manure, and those in the immediate vicinity of the city. Cγ. Morrison seconded. Cr. Da vies, while agreeing Hint the olnner settled portions of the county should receive attention, wanted the outlying portions to get a fair share. The link between Whitford nnd Whitby Bhould he fixed up. If that road was not attended to residents were going to suffer for malls and other commodities. The Chairman : I can give you my assurance that that portion will not be neglected. Other councillors heartily supported the motion, which was carried unanimously.
