MEMORIAL SERVICES.
REFERENCES IN THE CHURCHES. In a number of city ami suburban churches yesterday, reference was made to the death of tlie late Prime Minister. Mr. W. V. Massey. and in some instances resolutions of sympathy with the lelatives were passed, all present standing in silence. At the jubilee anniversary of St. Luke's Presbyterian Church, Remuera, the Rev. Dr. *Uibb said Mr. Massey was ever zealous for the material prosperity of New Zealand, added to which he was not indifferent to the still higher concerns of the people. The Rev. D. .T. Albert, preaching at St. Oeorge's, Takapuna, referred to Mr. Massey"s oft manifested pride in being a Presbyterian. The Rev. Evan R. Harries, speaking at St. Jamos' Church, quoted Carlyle, stating that Mr. Massey went to his grave "the able man of his time." The Rev. A. S. Wilson, at Orange Road Baptist Clio roll, said it was for the young manhood to bear in mind that Mr. Massey was an avowed Christian, a lover and defender of the Bible. The Rev. J, Lamb Harvey touched upon the manifesto signed by Mr. Sfassey with other Prime Ministers which contained the statenTent that "The hope, of a brotherhood of humanity reposes on the deep spiritual fact of the Fatherhood of fJorl." At yesterday's service of the First Church of Christ scientists reference was made to the death of Mr. Massey ;::id sympathy was expressed with Mrs' M-'s-sey and family.
