FIRING ON A HOUSEBOAT. FIRM BRITISH DEMAND. PEKING, May 13. In connection with the ( hincsc gunboat's attack on a Hiitish houseboat at Shanghai, the Consul-General yesterday pointed out to the ( liinesc admiral that owing to the gravity of the offence it was impossible to accept an apology at this stage. He must first be satisfied that the guilty officer had been adequately punished. The question of compensation must also be considered biter.— (Reuter.)
