SYDNEY'S AFFAIRS.
CORRUPT ALDERMEN. SYDNEY, April 7. The report of Mr. Lamb (Royal Commissioner), who has been inquiring into the City Council's cartage contracts, has been made available by the Cabinet. The report states that there has been a disregard of ordinary business principles in deciding the simple question as to which of certain tenders should be accepted. The commissioner finds that there was corruption on the part of a certain alderman. ITe says the facts elicited during the inquiry show a most unsatisfactory position in regard to the administration of the affairs of the city, whether it be attributable to corruption, or incompetence, or want of proper consideration, or understanding of the problems engaging the attention of the council.
The Cabinet has deferred its decision as to whether action will be taken on the findings on the return of the AttorneyGeneral.—(A. and X.Z. Cable.)
NO IOW TENDERS. LABOUR'S CIVIC METHODS. (Received 11 ti.m.) SYDNEY, this day. The Royal Commissioners' report on civic affairs states that the Labour party persistently voted against acceptance of tho lowest tender without any adequate reason and without due regard to the interests of the council.— (A. and X.Z.)
