SCHOOLS REOPENING.

ATTENDANCE PROSPECTS.

GOOD CLASSES EXPECTED

AT THE OPTION OF PARENTS.

The decision to reopen all buW;,. schools in the three counties of Eden Manukau, and Franklin (the fi rs t mentioned county, of course, embracing the City of Auckland), has given a ereat deal of satisfaction to parents, who are admittedly thoroughly wearied after the protracted holiday imposed upon the children as a precautionary measure against the spread of the epidemic Attendance at the schools is in the meantime to bo entirely at the option of parents, and those who. desire to keep their children away from the classroom need have no fear of a visit from the Truant Officer. There is, however, a general impression among teachers and others, that there will be comparatively few absentees when the school doors are opened on Wednesday, April 15. While attendance at school is to be optional, the opening of all public schools in the three counties aViovc specified will be compulsory. The various Grammar schools will open along with the others, the full staffs being on duty in every case.

In regard to areas other than those mentioned, it is announced that schools will remain closed in the following counties embraced in the Auckland education district:—Waikato, Raglan, Waipa, Piako, Matamata, Otorohanga, Tauranga, Rotorua, Taupo, Taumarunui, Kawhia, Waitomo, Ohura, Whakatane' Kaitieke, Great Barrier I-sland, Thames, Hauraki Plains, Ohinemuri, and Opotiki. In other counties within the area, such as Waitemata, it has been decided to open the secondary departments of district high schools on April 15.
