THE RUDE AWAKENING.

Lambeth Guardians last month we're notified of the case of a man who had applied for unemployment relief. When asked why he was out of work the man said: "The guvnor did not tell mc the job was piecework, or else I could have earned 10/ or 12/ a day. I thought it was time work, and all I was paid was 3/6 a day." Mr. Turner, the chairman of the Relief Committee, said this statement was typical of the attitude of mind towards their work of certain unemployed applicants for relief. The man's benefit had been susnended by the Labour Exchange for s>; weeks, and the board decided to leave the whole mattei in the hands of the chief relieving officer.
