Mr. and Mrs. A. G. Cox, of Hamilton, are at the Hotel Cargen. Sir Hector Duff arrived by the Tainui to-day. He is the Grand Hotel. Mr. David Wilson Virtue, of Wellington, solicitor, was admitted as a barrister by his Honor Mr. Justice Reed, on the application of Mr. C. G. White. Mr. G. D. PoTtus, director of the world totis. of the Australian Newcastle Steel Works Band.-ds in town in connection with the band's projected visit. Constable G. N". Douglas, of Avondale. has received notice of his transfer to Mercer. He will leave for his new station in a few days. Constable Horn, of Mercer, will replace him at Avondale. The Rev. F. M. Molyneaux, M.A., vicar of High Wycombe, England, who i 3 to be consecrated as assistant Bishop of Melanesia, will not leave England before June next. He expects to be consecrated on the first Sunday in. August. Private advice has been received in Wellington that the Hon. Downie Stewart has -arrived in New York, where he is undergoing special medical treatment from which he hopes to obtain considerable benefit. Mr. and Mrs. Lamb, Mr. and Mrs. Hooper, Mr. and Mrs. Cavaghan, and Messrs. W. Lee, B. Stevenson, J. Edney and H. Pilgrim, a party from Canada, arrived by the Makura and are at the Grand. Star Hotel guests include Mr. and Mrs. H. H. Wall (Gisborne), Mr. and Mrs. Chitty (Hamilton), and Messrs. G. Agar and C. E. Clayton (Christchurch, J. H. McCarroll and G. H. Wansbone (Dargaville), V. J. Tanner and H. J. Wynne (Wellington). Arrivals at the Grand Hotel to-day include Mr. and Mrs. C. F. Longmore and Mr. and Mrs. H. B. Nathan (Melbourne), Mr. and Mrs. J. Rosenfeld (Sydney), Dr. and Mrs. Fon (Peru), Mr. and Mrs. E. R. Lee (Cambridge), and Messrs. E. C. Else (Sheffield), J. D. Tanner (Sydney), W. D. Miller and O. H. Penny (U.S.A.), E. M. Edwards (Toronto), W. N. Satterthwaite (Dunedin). W. G. Harrison, G. H. Grange and C. Kerruish (Wellington), and Captain H. Seligson (South Africa). Mr. and Mrs. James J. Cuthbertsou, for many years resident in Devonport, anil well known as very active workers in connection with the Mission Hall in Calliope Koad, have decided to leave New Zealand, and have booked passages liv the boat leaving for England on April 1". After a stay of some month. 1 ) in the Homeland they intend to take up permanent residence at Capetown. Mr. Cuthbertson has been an accountant at Messrs. Smith and Caughey's for nine or ten years. Sub-Inspector J. P>. Thompson, of the Queensland Police Force (stationed at Bundaberg), brother of Mr. J. ©A. Thompson, of Auckland, lias just retired on superannuation after 40 years service. Mr. Thompson, who was a school teacher in the Taranaki district, at Stratford and Midhurst in 1882, left the Education Department to join the Armed Constabulary and was stationed first at Manaia and later went to Parehaka. subsequently being stationed at Kawhia. When the force was disestablished in 1884, Mr. Thompson went to Queensland, joined the police force and has remained ever since with ihe service. Another brother, the late Mr. E. If. Thompson, was also a member of the New Zealand Armed Constabulary, afterwards joining the N.S.W. Police force.
