Mr. John Rcnre lias decided not to stand for the Mayoralty of Onehunga. Mr. J. A. Carpenter, of Wellington, is at the Grand Hotel. Sir James and Lady Parr will attend the Victoria League "At Home" tins evening. Mr. C. Heather, vrho has been to Sydney, returned to Auckland by the Ulimaroa last evening. Mr. H. J. Macalister, LL.B., has been appointed Crown Solicitor at Invercargill, vice his father, Mr. W. Macalister, vrho has resigned. Sir Ernest Rutherford, the eminent scientist, may visit the Dominion at the end of the year, but no definite decision has yet been made. Mr. N. W. Nelson will take up his ■duties as manager of the Wellington branch of the N.Z. Insurance Company at the end of this month. Dr. J. H. Crawshaw, District Health. Officer for Otago and Southland for the past twelve months, has been transferred to the Auckland district. Mr. E. H. Morgan, chief railway passenger clerk in Auckland, who was recently appointed stationmaster at Marton, left by the express last evening. Mr. E. J. Howard, M.P. for Christchurch South, and Mr. J. McCombs, M.P. for Lyttelton, will arrive in Auckland from Wellington to-morrow morning. They will remain here over the weelTend. Star Hotel guests include Mr. and Mrs J. McEnnis and E.
