AUCKLAND CHORAL SOCIETY.
A SUCCESSFUL YEAR. ELECTIOX OF OFFICERS. At the annual meeting of the Auckland Choral Society the report of the committee stated that the original members of the society are Messrs. H. Brett, president, C. Hudson, vice-presi-dent, E. A. Brown, H. D. Bunby, C. B. l'lumnier, and Professor Egerton. The accounts, audited by Mr. T. E. Wnitton showed a profit of £45 0/10 for the year.' Ihis was possible on account of rents received from the hall, which amounted to £146. During the year the works produced by the society were—"Fair Men, Max Bruch; -'For the Fallen" Sir Edward Elgar; "Te Deum," Sir £s*™? bul liTan; "Dream of Gerontius," &r Edward Elgar; "Maritana," Vincent Wallace; and "Messiah," Handel The report added that the performance of \jerontius" was a great onu for the society, and was also a financial success. The committee have endeavoured *° feu, re . ' <Carmen? ' and "damson and Delilah' for this year, but found the royalty lees too much. It was further stated in the report that the members in the chorus are, on the whole, satisfactory, with the exception that the tenors need strengthening. The conin>ittee expressed its ..appreciation of tht valuable services of the conductor, Mr. Colin Muston. The accounts showed a total income of £960 2/1, of which £334 17/5 was from subscriptions, and £405 from nonarenibers. The expenditure left a credit balance of £45 0/10. The total assets were given as £3463 17/10, of which £2665 15/6 is for land and buildings in Alexandra Street. Tlie value of the music of the society is estimated at £431 1/8. The outstanding liabilities were only £6 12/6. The report and balance-sheet were adopted. It was announced that the programme for 1925 will be Mendelssohn's "Elijah," Weber's "Der Frieschutz/' Gounod's '•'Faust," Rossini'iS "Stabat Mater," and Handel's "Messiah." The following are the officers and committee for this year: —President, Mr. Henry Brett; vice-president,. Mr. Charles Hudson; management committee, Mrs. Betts, Miss M. Barr, Messrs. Pierce, Sandford, Robinson, Edmiston, Plunimer, Egerton, Bunby and Fairburn.
