THE NORTHERN BOROUGHS.
(To the Editor.) > Sir,—Lately the boronghs of Birken-! head, Northcote and ' Takapuna have i been squabbling over the electric sup- • ply, and meetings have been held, at which a great deal of hot air baa been expended, and nothing definite arrived ■ at. In the meantime considerable expense i ha? been incurred, yet we are no "forrader/ . It is a great pity the boroughs could not be wiped out ani the work rndertaken by some responsible body J that would show some results, or why I not the boroughs amalgamate and then i concentrate on this and other import-.! aant works in contemplation. The j system of late years has been wasteful; large sums of money have been bor, | rowed, rates increased fully 50 per cent, and yet little to show for it. The roads to-day are not in as good | condition as ten years ago, and are daily getting worse. The slogan should bt amalgamation—and get a move on. Ratepayers should wake up and put live nien intq_ office with progressive ideas who will show results for money expended. A ratepayers' association is badly needed, particularly in Xortheote.—l am, etc., " COMMUNE BONUS.
