AVONDALE BOROUGH COUNCIL.
A meeting of the Avondale Borough Council was held on Wednesday evening, the Mayor, Mr. W. J. Tait, presiding. There were also present Councillors J. B. Clarke, .15. Croft', P. Turner, T. Wilson, C. D. Jones, and A. E. Blackmau. A letter was received from the Hon. the Minister of Internal Affairs, stating that a report which had been circulated that he proposed to cancel the totalisator license of the Avondale Jockey Club, was without foundation. He assured the Council that the Government had no intention of taking action in the direction indicated. The Avondale South -School Committee wrote thanking the Council for the dona- : tion of £20 towards the building of a dental clinic at the Avondale. South school. A letter was received from the trustees of a large estate in Avondale suggesting to the Council the alteration of the borough by-laws, reducing the building areas for dwelling houses from one-quarter to onesixth of an acre. It was resolved to reply that the Council cannot see its way to alter the area required for dwelling houses. In accordance with notice Councillor Blackmnn brought forward a motion, "that in future, the Mayor be granted au honorarium of £100 per annum." Councillor Clarke seconded the motion, which was carried. Eight tenders were received for the supply of a motor hose reel for fire fighting purposes. These were referred to the borough engineer to peruse the specifications of the various motors and report *o the Council. __
