WAITEMATA POWER BOARD.

LOAN POLL AUTHORISED. £200,000 SCHEME. A reply from the Auckland Electric Power Board expressing regret that owing to the policy of the Public Works Department it could not go into the matter of amalgamation of the Waitemata and the city power districts, was read at the special meeting of the Waitemata Power Board, held in the Chamber of Commerce to-day. There were present: Messrs. J. W. Hayden (chairman), W. K. T. Leighton, F. W. Grigg, C. S. West, J. Mackie, J. McLeod, E. C. Walton, M. E. Thompson, and A. E. Greenslade. The letter was received, the chairman remarking that this disposed of the question of amalgamation. A motion by Mr. Greenslade, advocating steps to further the amalgamation by overcoming the obstacles presented, and referring the question to Cabinet for consideration, was not seconded, and the chairman ruled that the mover could not therefore speak to it. It was decided to proceed with the loan proposals for £200,000, the date of the poll being fixed for April 29, the same day as the municipal elections. Meetings in support of the loan scheme and the policy of the board are to be held, commencing at Ta;kapuna next Monday, Birkenhead on Tuesday, and Northcote on Wednesday. . Meetings will subsequently be held throughout the area. % Mr. Bromley Smith was engaged to assist in connection with the promotion of these meetings, and the arrangements in connection -with the loan poll generally. Mr. Alex. Page was appointed returning officer for the loan poll. Mr. Greenslade asked if the meetings advertised for next week on the North Sliore were at the expense of the board.

The chairman Teplied in the affirmative, and said that this had been done on his authority as chairman. A- discussion ensued as to whether Mr. Greenslade would be permitted to speak at these meetings. It was eventually agreed that the chairman bo. appointed the speaker at all the meetings, with discretion to call on any member to speak in support.
