She arrived in London on November 23 by the Rotorua to join hor husband, and expects to be in this country for about two years. She is leaving this month for Scotland, and hopes later on to go to France. The Governor-General, accompanied by her Excellency Lady Alice Fergusson, paid a visit to the Evelyn Firth Home yesterday afternoon. Sir Donald is now engaged in professional work with a vieW to recommencing his practice as a surgeon in New Zealand. Keen interest is centring round the polo tournament which began at tne. Polo Ground, Hagley Park, Christ-: church, yesterday, and continues, for five days. Visiting polo players from various New Zealand clubs will be in Christchureh to take part in the matches, and many will be accompanied bjr their wives. Miss Henderson, national secretary of the social work done by the women's Avelcomed back to ' Christchureh after an extended tour of America and England. Miss Henderson gave an account of some of her experiences in different places in the United States, and spoke of the social work' do/ie. by. the women's organisations there.' She specially mentioned the work done by the Avomen police, avlio Avere stationed in many of the large railway stations to look after the interests of Avomen and young girls when travelling. They also did a great deal of preventive work among young girls and children. The speaker described the Children's Courts and the way they were conducted, in many places representatives of 'the Federated Women's Clubs attended the Courts and reported on cases to their clubs. Miss Henderson said tliat in her opinion Mrs. Carrie Chapman Catt was the leading woman of the world. She heard her address the conference ot the Federated Women's Clubs in Los Angeles, at which there were two thousand delegates. She spoke on the League of Nations, and never had she heard such an inspiring speech. Emma Goldman, called " Red Emma," from her revolutionary tendencies, was recently given a dinner in London, when she, announced her -purpose in comin" to England as largely a mission to obtain, help for the enslaved Russian people, and to warn the English Communists of the morass into Avhich they are drifting. " Red Emma" hardly looks —up to her ■ name,- remarks "The London Chronicle." This woman, avlio has been deported or imprisoned in most countries under the fitiri, is in appearance the typical German iiausfrau, and yet is one of the most wonderful spirits alive to-day. Hamilton, of Greenlane, to Mr. William Henry Green, second son of Mr. and Mrs. R. A. Green, of Greenlane and late of Heme, Bay. The bride, who entered the church on the arm of her father, w.ore white crepe de chine, and tulle veil, with- pearl coronet, and •wried a shower bouquest of choice

The bride was attended by I her sister, Miss Doreen Hamilton, who wore-apricot crepe de chine and hat of black satin and carried a bouquet of I pale pink and helitrope flowers and I streamers and by her little niece, Joan ' Curtis, as a flower girl who wore pale I pink crepe de chine and black satin poke ; bonnet and carried a pretty little basket I of flowers. Greenslade, vice-president of the club, asked Mrs. Bartlett to accept a silk scarf in the club's colours. Three hearty j cheers were given for Mrs. Bartlett, Avho replied in a short speech. On Friday an afternoon tea was given by Mrs. T. C. Fraser, as a farewell to Mrs. A. Joseph and Mrs. A. J. .Storey. An amusing competition Avas won by Mrs. A. E.
