PROPOSED ROUTES. AUCKLAND- WAIKATO. When a letter was read from the Hamilton Chamber of Commerce yesterday, at the meeting of the Auckland . Harbour Board, suggesting that the atter body should inspect other routea . before finally deciding to support the ! Auckland-Waikato scheme, the secretary 3 (Mr. H. B. Burnett) stated that the 3 board had no power to spend money on j a canal between the Hauraki Gulf and the Waikato. j It was decided, on the motion of Mr. j M. H. Wynyard, to reply that the board j was prepared to give all information t touching any proposed canal between t the Waikato and Waitemata, but had r no power to spend money on works out- . side its jurisdiction. It was understood j that the Inlands Waterway Commission , had made investigations relating to canal t communications between the Hauraki j Gulf and the Waikato, and application t should be made to the Marine Departr ment for information. t
