VICTORIANS AT MANAWAXU. EIGHT WICKETS FOR. 56. (By Telegraph.—Frnss Association.) PALMERSTON NORTH, Tuesday. Nineteen hours after the conclusion of the drawn game at Auckland the Victorian cricketers took the field against the Manawatu representatives on a slow wicket this morning. The local side exceeded expectations by compiling 205 runs, nearly every member of the team assisting, as is evidenced by the fact that the highest scores were McVicar 32 and Eyre 22. Extras accounted for 40, Ellis being spelled for the Test match; The fielding of the visitors was good. The Victorians began badly and the innings was a long succession of disasters, the score at stumps being eight wickets for 56 runs. They taus require 50 runs to avoid a follow on. Of the visiting bowlers Hartkopf and Ebeling took seven of the ten wickets, the former's analysis being four for 49, and the latter's three for 31. j Gallichan and Hope, two young trundlers, a left-hand slow bowler and a right-hand fast bowler respectively, had a field day and played havoc with the inter-State champions. Gallichan took five wickets for 26, and Hope three for 22. TO-DAY'S PLAY. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) PALMTRSTON NORTH, this day. Play was resumed this morning. Runs continued to come freely until Eyre brilliantly caught Willis when the score was 124. Ebeling and Mayne then became associated in a good partnership. A double change was made in the bowling. When Mayne was approaching his century the batsman gave an easy chance to McViear. The compiling of the additional 135 runs took only sixtytwo minutes, Mayne scoring freely all round the wicket.
