The Victorians began badly and the innings was a long succession of disasters, the score at stumps being eight wickets for 56 runs. They taus require 50 runs to avoid a follow on. Of the visiting bowlers Hartkopf and Ebeling took seven of the ten wickets, the former's analysis being four for 49, and the latter's three for 31. j Gallichan and Hope, two young trundlers, a left-hand slow bowler and a right-hand fast bowler respectively, had a field day and played havoc with the inter-State champions.
